A Theory on Affinity
We have long operated under the assumption that Bul'ar specimens are influenced by the Aether in
ways Humans are not. Refined Arkhé, conditioned into Phos or Skotos, visibly alters a Bul'ar—turning
them white or black. In rare, violent cases, an overwhelming magical force can force a 'swap' in
alignment, though the process usually results in grave structural trauma.
However, the specimen currently under my observation has turned this theory upside down. When it
arrived, it was Phos-saturated, having been obtained from the Arkos. We introduced a regimen of
Skotos-brimming nutrients, intending to force an alignment shift to our side. The transition was
agonizingly slow—five years of meticulous conditioning.
We were initially successful. Not only did the specimen begin to thrive on Skotos-infused intake,
but it began to exhibit mastery over the void—a feat never before recorded in a captured specimen.
We were convinced we had created the ultimate weapon: a Draconarius capable of inducing total
annihilation of the Arkos ranks.
Then it matured fully and utterly confounded me, the specimen switched alignment and switched to
mastery over ice. Maybe it was too intelligent compared to what we truly needed it to be, mastery
over the void would eventually have killed it from the inside out.
But the question remains: _how?_ I have checked for external damage—no Phos-aligned blasts to the
hide. I have interrogated the Servant of the Void regarding its diet; there have been no deviations.
Phos is entering the system through a hidden vector, overriding our Skotos-saturation with a power
that is as consistent as it is overwhelming.
Did the specimen’s core override our conditioning to preserve its own existence? Did the pattern
choose Ice because it was more 'stable' than the void we forced upon it? And finally, *what* is
infusing it with Phos when it's diet is being monitored and slaughters any Arkos with ease? There
has to be another way for it to ingest it — whatever is feeding it.
